Cerebras Systems co-founder and CEO Andrew Feldman argues that public discussion of artificial intelligence should give more attention to its potential benefits, alongside its risks. He says alarmist messaging can obscure ways AI may contribute to advances in areas such as cancer research.
Feldman also acknowledged that powerful technologies require careful oversight. He said the industry should pursue reasonable regulation and consider how AI could be misused, rather than treating its promise and risks as separate issues.
He linked some public concern to the rapid expansion of data centers, saying companies have not done enough to engage local communities, particularly in the United States. He pointed to countries including Brazil, Canada, Finland, Iceland, Mexico, Norway and Sweden as places encouraging data center construction.
Feldman added that more efficient chips and AI models can work together to advance computing, rather than efficiency necessarily reducing demand for hardware.
Stronger community engagement and responsible innovation could help shape an AI future that is both more trusted and more useful.
