Brooklyn's Floyd Bennett Field will welcome the Floyd Bennett Field! Public Arts Festival on October 3, 2026, turning two landmark aircraft hangars into expansive canvases for contemporary art.
The free public event will present 15 newly commissioned works projected across the 8,640-square-foot façades of the historic structures. Participating artists include Derrick Adams, Randy Polumbo, Wills Glasspiegel, LaJuné McMillian and Ryan Hartley Smith.
Water, Nature and Innovation in Focus
Created around themes of water, nature and innovation, the works will reflect the site's connection to Jamaica Bay and the Atlantic coastline. The program brings contemporary creative practices into dialogue with a location shaped by aviation history, waterfront ecosystems and urban transformation.
Currently being renewed for future public use, the Art Deco hangars will take on a new role for the evening through light, motion and large-scale visual design. The festival's format offers visitors an opportunity to experience the architecture of Floyd Bennett Field through a fresh cultural lens.
As one of New York City's major outdoor projection-mapped art gatherings, the festival combines public art, live music and the open landscape of the park. By activating historic infrastructure with new artistic voices, the event points to how cultural programming can help reimagine shared urban spaces for future generations.
