Bob Ross's Mountain Splendor to Lead First German Auction of His Art

Bob Ross's 1986 painting Mountain Splendor will go under the hammer in Germany for the first time on December 5. The auction will be held by Ketterer Kunst in Munich, with proceeds benefiting American Public Television (APT).

The work carries an estimate of €40,000 to €60,000. Ketterer Kunst says it has remained in storage for decades and is in exceptionally well-preserved condition. Before the sale, it is scheduled to be presented at the auction house's showrooms in Frankfurt, Cologne, Hamburg, Berlin and Munich from November 8 to December 4.

The auction adds a new chapter to Ross's international appeal while directing support to public television in the United States. It also shows how the market for culturally resonant art can help sustain institutions that bring creative programming to audiences.
