Blueprints AI Turns Building Sketches Into Permit-Ready Plans

Blueprints AI turns sketches or project descriptions into coordinated, code-checked building plans in minutes, aiming to reduce drafting time while keeping licensed architects in control.

Blueprints AI Turns Building Sketches Into Permit-Ready Plans

Blueprints AI is developing software that converts a project description or 2D sketch into coordinated building plans in minutes. Its second-generation platform can produce architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing and interior design documents.

Users can revise a project, with changes carried through the full set of plans. The system also checks designs against local building codes. Licensed architects and other professionals remain responsible for reviewing and sealing documents before permit submission.

Co-founders Al Drams, an architect and contractor, and data scientist Coco Cao trained the software on eight years of approved plans from Drams' firm. The company says the new version is expected to become publicly available this week, while work is underway on a third generation with additional structural analysis and electrical panel design tools.

By automating repetitive drafting tasks, the platform aims to give architects more time for design. If it proves effective in practice, this approach could help teams move from early concepts to coordinated plans more efficiently, while keeping professional judgment central.
