Amazon Web Services (AWS) is addressing a billing portal bug that briefly displayed wildly inflated cost estimates for some customers, including figures in the millions and even billions of dollars.
Amazon said the inaccurate numbers appeared after a recent change in its billing computation system. The company noted that a rollback did not immediately solve the issue, but emphasized that the estimates do not reflect actual usage or real charges.
The glitch affected only the billing display, not the underlying cloud services themselves. AWS said it began seeing the incorrect data late Thursday and expected the issue to take several more hours to fully resolve.
For cloud users, the incident highlights how critical billing accuracy is in large-scale digital infrastructure. As cloud platforms continue to power businesses worldwide, stronger automation and validation tools may shape a more transparent future for online services.
