Australian authorities have detained two men in Perth over alleged links to TeamPCP, a cybercrime group accused of targeting major technology and software ecosystems. The suspects face multiple charges, including hacking and money laundering, and are expected in court later Thursday.
According to the Australian Federal Police, the case centers on attacks that reportedly tampered with widely used open-source projects. Investigators say the goal was to spread malicious code, capture credentials, and use stolen access to pressure victims for payment.
FBI cyber officials said the group is believed to have compromised more than a thousand organizations through supply-chain style intrusions. These operations allegedly affected tools and platforms used across the tech sector, including software relied on by companies working with cloud services and developer infrastructure.
Authorities also said the investigation began in April 2026 after information from cybersecurity firms. During the announcement, officials reported seizing data, devices, and other electronics, while preparing to notify affected victims.
