Apple Unveils the M4 iPad Air

Apple introduces the M4 iPad Air, featuring enhanced performance and connectivity, available for pre-order starting March 4, 2026.

Apple has recently announced its latest product lineup, including the much-anticipated M4 iPad Air. This new tablet, featuring the M4 chip, was revealed alongside the affordable iPhone 17e, showcasing Apple's commitment to innovation.

The M4 iPad Air: A Subtle Upgrade

At first glance, the M4 iPad Air appears almost identical to its predecessor, the M3 model. Both the 11-inch and 13-inch versions maintain the same design aesthetics, making it easy to confuse the two. The standout feature of the M4 Air is its upgraded M4 chip, which, while not the latest in Apple's lineup, offers significant performance enhancements compared to the M3.

Equipped with an eight-core CPU that includes three performance cores and five efficiency cores, as well as a nine-core GPU, the M4 chip boasts 120GB/s memory bandwidth and 12GB of RAM. Notably, this model has one fewer performance core than the M3 but compensates with an extra efficiency core. The increase in RAM from 8GB to 12GB is expected to enhance multitasking capabilities, allowing users to run more applications simultaneously without interruptions.

Although specific performance metrics will only be clear after real-world testing, Apple claims that the M4 iPad Air is up to 30% faster than its predecessor and 2.3 times quicker than the M1 iPad Air. This suggests that while M3 users might not feel the need to upgrade, those with older iPad models could find the M4 Air a compelling option.

The M4 chip also integrates the N1 chip, which supports advanced connectivity standards such as Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread, enhancing the device's smart home compatibility. For cellular models, the inclusion of the C1X modem promises a 30% improvement in efficiency compared to the previous generation.

Aside from these enhancements, the M4 iPad Air retains much of what users loved about the M3 model. It features 12MP front and rear cameras, USB-C connectivity with Touch ID, and a battery life of up to 10 hours for video playback. However, it still offers a standard 60Hz display, which may disappoint some users looking for a high-refresh-rate experience.

Pre-Order Details for the M4 iPad Air

The M4 iPad Air will be available for pre-order starting March 4, with the base model priced at $599 for the 11-inch version with 128GB of storage. The 13-inch variant will start at $799 for the same storage capacity. Adding cellular connectivity will increase the price by $150. The official launch is set for March 11, coinciding with the release of the iPhone 17e.
