Apple has introduced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max at its fall event, placing a clear focus on imaging, performance, and on-device intelligence. The new Pro models keep a familiar design, while the camera system receives the most notable upgrade.
The rear camera now includes a 48-megapixel sensor with a variable aperture built from six thin blades, a setup designed to improve flexibility in different lighting conditions. Apple also added advanced camera controls such as white balance and histogram tools for users who want more precision.
On the front, the updated dynamic range island is smaller and now supports tracking three live activities at once. Under the hood, both devices run on Apple's new A20 Pro chip and use a redesigned vapor chamber to help manage heat more efficiently.
Battery performance has also been refined. Apple says the iPhone 18 Pro can deliver up to 36 hours of video playback, while the Pro Max reaches 45 hours. The lineup also arrives in a new burgundy finish, replacing the previous orange option.
Apple highlighted a new Siri experience with contextual on-screen intelligence. The feature will launch in English as a beta with iOS 27, followed by support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish in October. Another iOS 27 feature, called iPhone handoff, will let users switch between two iPhones using one eSIM.
Pricing starts at $1,199 for the iPhone 18 Pro and $1,299 for the Pro Max. Pre-orders begin Saturday, with availability set for September 18. This launch points to a future where smartphones become even more adaptive, efficient, and personally responsive.
