Apple has introduced a redesigned Apple TV 4K, bringing a faster chip, updated Siri features and hands-free voice control to its streaming device. The new model is priced at $299.
Voice control without the remote
Powered by the A19 chip, the device includes three far-field microphones so viewers can speak to Siri without picking up the remote or using a paired HomePod. They can ask for show recommendations, search with natural-language questions or get details about a program.
The updated remote has a built-in speaker to help users locate it by sound. Apple also says the Apple TV 4K can deliver a four-speaker surround experience when paired with HomePod mini 2 or HomePod 2 speakers.
Pre-orders begin today, October 13, with the device set to go on sale November 13. The combination of conversational search and hands-free controls points toward a more intuitive way to discover and enjoy home entertainment.
