Apple to Move Hide My Email to a New @private.icloud.com Domain

Apple is changing Hide My Email to use @private.icloud.com addresses, a move that may affect how apps and websites recognize private sign-ups.

Apple is preparing a notable update to its Hide My Email privacy tool, the iCloud+ feature that creates masked addresses for online sign-ups and forwards messages to a user's real inbox.

According to a note shared with developers, the company will shift these randomly generated addresses from the familiar @icloud.com format to @private.icloud.com in the coming weeks. The change is designed to make private addresses easier to identify for app and website providers.

Apple says existing masked addresses will keep working as before, with mail delivery continuing without interruption. At the same time, developers and email providers may need to adjust their filtering systems so messages tied to the feature continue to reach users smoothly.

The update highlights how privacy tools and platform design continue to evolve together, especially as digital services balance convenience, identity management, and account security. For users, the shift may bring a more visible distinction between standard and private email routing.

As privacy features become more integrated into everyday digital life, changes like this could shape how future platforms manage identity, access, and user control online.
