Apple has successfully acquired the intellectual property and all associated rights for its acclaimed series "Severance" from the original production company, Fifth Season. This significant move, valued at nearly $70 million, will see Apple's internal studio taking charge of producing upcoming seasons. Fifth Season will continue to play a role as an executive producer.
This agreement mirrors a prior arrangement Apple made with AMC Studios regarding the sci-fi series "Silo" after its inaugural season.
"Severance" is set to become one of Apple's flagship titles, joining the ranks of other popular series like "Your Friends and Neighbors" and "Stick."
Reports indicate that production expenses for "Severance" had surpassed Fifth Season's budget capabilities. The studio had sought financial advances from Apple and was contemplating moving production from New York to Canada to benefit from larger tax incentives. Given Apple's robust financial backing, the company opted to take complete control of the project.
The series holds significant importance for Apple, as its second season emerged as the platform's most-viewed series at that time, earning the highest number of nominations at the 2025 Emmy Awards.
According to sources, the show is anticipated to continue for four seasons, with potential spin-offs, prequels, and international adaptations on the horizon.
