Apple is bringing back the App Switcher to Apple Watch with the watchOS 27.2 beta, restoring a familiar multitasking shortcut for users who regularly move between apps.
In watchOS 27, a double press of the Digital Crown no longer opened the list of recently used apps. Instead, Apple introduced the new Dynamic App Grid, which prioritizes applications based on Siri's predictions, recent activity and personal usage habits.
A familiar shortcut returns
The returning App Switcher gives users a direct way to revisit open apps without navigating through the main app grid. This can make everyday actions--such as returning to a workout, timer, music controls or messages--more immediate on the compact Apple Watch display.
Apple has not detailed the reason behind the change, but the feature's reappearance in the beta suggests the company is continuing to refine how navigation works across watchOS. The Dynamic App Grid remains part of the interface, offering a more personalized route to frequently used applications.
