Apple is entering a new leadership phase as Phil Schiller steps away from his long-running role overseeing the App Store. Schiller, who joined the company in 1987 and took charge of the App Store in 2015, will remain at Apple as an Apple Fellow, a title reserved for leaders who have made major contributions.
In this role, he is expected to focus on select projects while day-to-day App Store operations shift to Carson Oliver, a veteran Apple executive with more than 14 years at the company. Apple is also moving the App Store into its services division, led by Eddy Cue, signaling a broader organizational refresh.
Schiller's transition comes after years of steering one of Apple's most visible platforms through major changes in app commerce and developer policy. His work included guiding the company through the Epic Games dispute, a case that helped shape how app makers connect users to external payment options.
The leadership changes are part of a wider evolution across Apple's top ranks. Recent transitions have included departures and retirements in operations, legal, environmental, and payments leadership, while the company continues to adjust its product and services strategy.
