Dining out with friends often leads to the challenge of splitting the bill, especially when some opt out of certain items. Apple has unveiled a groundbreaking solution at WWDC 2026 that aims to simplify this process.
With the innovative Siri in Camera feature, users can now point their iPhone camera at a restaurant receipt. This functionality allows Siri to highlight each item, enabling users to easily select what they ordered. Following this, separate Apple Cash payment requests can be sent to each individual based on their selections, making the often awkward act of bill-splitting a breeze.
Apple's VP of Software, Sebastien Marineau-Mes, emphasized the feature's practicality during the presentation, stating, "If you're grabbing a bite with friends and point your iPhone at the bill, you can select what you ordered to split the tab with Apple Cash."
While similar bill-splitting capabilities have existed in apps like SplitWise, they have not gained significant traction. The integration of this feature within Apple's native apps, such as iMessage, creates a seamless user experience that encourages adoption without the need for additional downloads.
In addition to bill-splitting, the Siri in Camera feature can also provide users with estimated nutritional information about their meals, further enhancing the dining experience.
As technology continues to evolve, features like these not only streamline social interactions but also pave the way for more intuitive and connected dining experiences in the future.
