Despite these improvements, some functionalities are still lacking. For example, users cannot unsend messages, reply to threads, or edit texts on iPhones--those features remain exclusive to Android. Additionally, while iMessages benefit from end-to-end encryption, RCS messages exchanged between iPhones and Android devices have not been protected in the same way, raising concerns about security.

End-to-End Encryption for RCS Now Available with iOS 26.5

However, a breakthrough has arrived with the release of iOS 26.5, which introduces end-to-end encryption for RCS messaging. This means that as long as Android users are utilizing the latest version of Google Messages, messages sent from iPhones running iOS 26.5 will be secure. While Apple notes that this feature is still in beta and may not be supported by all U.S. carriers, major providers like AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon are on board.
