Apple Acquires Israeli Startup QAI to Boost AI Capabilities

Apple's acquisition of Israeli startup QAI highlights its strategy to enhance AI capabilities, particularly in audio technology and user interaction features.

In the competitive landscape of artificial intelligence, Apple is intensifying its efforts alongside Meta and Google. The tech giant's recent acquisition of Q.AI, an Israeli startup, signifies its commitment to enhancing its hardware capabilities, particularly in the audio domain.

As reported initially, Apple has secured Q.AI, which specializes in imaging and machine learning technologies. These innovations allow devices to understand whispered speech and improve audio quality in challenging environments. This acquisition aligns with Apple's ongoing enhancements to its AirPods, which recently incorporated features like live translation.

Furthermore, Q.AI has developed technology that identifies subtle facial muscle movements, a feature that could significantly enhance the functionality of Apple's Vision Pro headset.

Valued at nearly $2 billion, this acquisition marks Apple's second-largest deal, following its purchase of Beats Electronics for $3 billion in 2014. Notably, this is the second time CEO Aviad Maizels has partnered with Apple, having previously sold PrimeSense, a key player in Apple's shift from fingerprint sensors to facial recognition in iPhones.

Founded in 2022 and backed by notable investors, Q.AI's founding team, including Maizels and co-founders Yonatan Wexler and Avi Barliya, will join Apple as part of the deal.

This announcement comes just hours before Apple's quarterly earnings report, with analysts predicting revenues around $138 billion and anticipating strong iPhone sales growth.
