Anthropic Eyes $50 Billion Funding Round at $900 Billion Valuation

Investor enthusiasm for Anthropic, the creator of the Claude AI assistant, has surged significantly. The company is reportedly considering a new funding round aimed at raising approximately $50 billion, with its valuation projected between $850 billion and $900 billion, according to multiple sources.

Earlier reports indicated that Anthropic had received several preemptive offers at an $800 billion valuation, but the company had yet to finalize any fundraising decisions at that time. Sources suggest that Anthropic is now feeling the pressure to secure additional funding, potentially marking its final private fundraising effort before an anticipated IPO. A crucial board meeting in May is expected to determine the specifics of this funding round.

The anticipated funding total ranges from $40 billion to $50 billion, yet investor demand appears to outstrip this amount due to the company's impressive growth trajectory. Notably, one institutional investor is prepared to commit as much as $5 billion but has not yet managed to arrange a meeting with Anthropic's CFO, Krishna Rao.

This month, Anthropic announced that its annual revenue run rate has exceeded $30 billion, a remarkable increase from approximately $9 billion at the end of 2025. Current estimates place the run rate closer to $40 billion, indicating robust financial health.

A significant portion of this revenue stems from Anthropic's AI coding capabilities, particularly through its Claude Code and Cowork platforms. Many investors believe the company is just beginning to tap into its vast potential, with opportunities to expand into various sectors such as finance, life sciences, and healthcare.

In February, Anthropic secured its last funding round at a valuation of $380 billion. If the upcoming round proceeds as reported, it could more than double its valuation and potentially match or exceed that of its main competitor. OpenAI, for example, recently concluded a record-setting $122 billion round at an $852 billion post-money valuation.

The trajectory of Anthropic's growth and its ability to attract significant investment not only underscores the rising demand for AI technologies but also highlights the transformative potential of these innovations across multiple industries.
