Anthropic has begun introducing India-specific pricing for Claude, signaling a deeper push into one of the world's most active AI markets. The update is appearing for some users on Claude's website and mobile apps.
At this stage, payments still rely on cards or app store billing, while support for the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has not yet been added. That leaves room for further localization as the company adapts to India's fast-growing digital economy.
India is now Anthropic's second-largest market after the U.S., accounting for 5.8% of global Claude usage, according to the company. The new pricing reflects that momentum: Claude Pro is listed at ₹2,000 a month when billed annually, Claude Max starts at ₹11,999 a month, and Team plans begin at ₹2,399 per seat monthly. Local taxes are included, and mobile app prices may differ slightly.
The move follows Anthropic's broader expansion in India, including the opening of a Bengaluru office and the appointment of Irina Ghose to lead its business in the country. The company has also worked with major Indian IT firms such as Infosys and Tata Consultancy Services to support enterprise AI adoption.
As global AI platforms refine pricing and payment options for India, the market is becoming a key test case for how advanced tools can scale across diverse digital audiences. This shift could help shape the next phase of AI accessibility in emerging economies.
