On Tuesday, Google unveiled exciting new features for the Android ecosystem as part of its March software update for Pixel devices, known as the Pixel Drop. One of the standout enhancements allows Android users to assist in locating lost luggage by sharing tracker tag information with participating airlines.
Users equipped with a Find Hub-compatible tracker can easily share their luggage's location. By selecting the lost item within the Find Hub app, they can generate a unique and secure URL through the "share item location" option. This link can then be pasted into the airline's mobile app or website, enabling real-time tracking of the luggage's journey.
The shared link is designed to expire after seven days, ensuring security, and sharing will automatically be disabled once the luggage is returned to the user.
Currently, over ten global airlines, including Ajet, Air India, China Airlines, and the Lufthansa Group, have integrated Find Hub locations into their baggage recovery processes. Google aims to expand partnerships with additional airlines in the future.
In addition to luggage tracking, Google has introduced several other features. Android users can now share their real-time locations directly within Google Messages, enhancing communication by allowing users to see each other on a map during conversations.
Moreover, the Phone app is rolling out "Calling Cards," enabling users to customize the appearance of incoming call screens, similar to the Contact Poster feature on iPhones. Android Auto users will benefit from a new educational play experience tailored for children aged 3 to 12, designed to facilitate learning through engaging games.
For Pixel devices, Google is enhancing its Circle to Search feature with a new "Find the Look" tool that helps users identify clothing items. The "Try It On" feature allows users to visualize outfits from videos or images received in messages, making fashion exploration more interactive.
Additionally, Google is updating its At a Glance widget, which will now provide real-time transit updates, live sports scores, and end-of-day financial updates for users' watchlists in Google Finance.
For Pixel Watch users, new features include alerts for when they leave their phones behind, automatic locking of devices when out of range, and gesture controls for answering calls or taking photos with ease.
