Amazon has introduced a refreshed Kindle family centered on a major design change: a flush-front display that removes the traditional raised bezel around the screen. The new look aims to make the e-readers cleaner, slimmer and easier to carry.
To preserve comfortable reading, Amazon says the devices use capacitive touch sensing and haptic technology to recognize where a reader is holding the device. This creates an adaptive inactive touch area around a resting finger, helping prevent unintended page turns or commands.
A thinner approach to digital reading
The standard 6-inch Kindle now measures 6.8 millimeters thick and weighs 140 grams. Amazon says page turns are 30% faster than on the previous generation. It is offered in Ube and Graphite, while a new aluminum-backed 32GB version adds Alpine Sky and Seaglass Green finishes. Prices begin at $149.99.
The refreshed Kindle Paperwhite also adopts a lighter, thinner format. Amazon positions it as the model with the largest Kindle display and highest contrast ratio, designed for clear text and deep blacks in varying light conditions. The 16GB edition starts at $199.99, while the 32GB Signature Edition is priced at $249.99.
Amazon's color-screen Kindle Colorsoft receives the same flush-front treatment. Available with 16GB or 32GB of storage, the Colorsoft starts at $289.99, with the Signature Edition priced at $319.99.
The updated Kindle and aluminum model are available in selected global markets, while the new Paperwhite and Colorsoft models are open for preorder. The company is also continuing its Kids range with updated reading-focused options.
This redesign signals how e-readers may evolve toward more intuitive, portable hardware that keeps the focus firmly on the reading experience.
