Amazon is preparing a major leap for Prime Air, with plans to bring its drone delivery service to nearly 500 U.S. cities by the end of 2026. The expansion would widen the network to about six times its current reach and mark one of the most ambitious steps yet in fast, autonomous delivery.
The next rollout includes 11 locations: Tolleson in Arizona; Ruskin in Florida; Kansas City in Kansas; Papillion in Nebraska; Baton Rouge in Louisiana; Hazel Park and Pontiac in Michigan; and Richmond, San Antonio, Richardson, and Waco in Texas.
Amazon says the service is built around safety and precision, supported by its Detect-and-Avoid system, onboard cameras, and sensors that help drones navigate and identify obstacles in real time. The company also notes that the aircraft are designed to operate in everyday conditions, including light rain and a range of temperatures.
Prime Air operates under FAA Part 135 certification, the same regulatory framework used for commercial air carriers. According to Amazon, eligible Prime members can receive drone delivery in as fast as 30 minutes, with nearly all items under 5 pounds qualifying for the service.
The company also says it has already delivered hundreds of thousands of packages by drone this year. As the network grows, Amazon is also preparing future launches in Georgia, Ohio, Illinois, Idaho, and New York.
With more companies investing in autonomous logistics, drone delivery is moving closer to becoming a familiar part of everyday commerce, shaping a faster and more connected delivery future.
