Exciting changes are on the horizon for Prime Video subscribers. Starting from April 10, Amazon will introduce a new streaming tier that will enhance the viewing experience for those willing to upgrade. The current "basic" plan will be limited to 1080p streaming, while users who desire 4K quality will need to opt for the new "Prime Video Ultra" plan, available for an additional $4.99 per month.
The "Prime Video Ultra" plan promises a premium experience, featuring ad-free content and support for both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. Subscribers will also benefit from the ability to stream on up to five devices simultaneously, an increase from the previous limit of three. Moreover, the number of downloadable titles will rise to 100, significantly enhancing accessibility for users.
For those who prefer to retain the basic plan, there are still notable improvements. Although 4K streaming will not be available, subscribers will gain access to Dolby Vision, along with one additional simultaneous stream (four total) and the capacity to download up to 50 titles at once, doubling the previous limit.
While the introduction of new features is generally welcomed, the decision to restrict certain existing benefits behind a paywall may raise concerns among users. Nevertheless, this strategic move by Amazon could potentially lead to increased revenue as subscribers seek to enjoy their favorite shows and movies in higher resolutions.
