Amazon has introduced Alexa+ in India, expanding its conversational assistant with support for both Hindi and English during an Early Access period.
The updated assistant is designed to sustain longer interactions, remember context across a conversation and respond with a more expressive voice. Users can also move naturally between Hindi and English within the same sentence, reflecting everyday multilingual communication in India.
Connected support for daily routines
Alexa+ can manage multi-step requests, from ordering groceries through Amazon Now to controlling compatible smart-home devices. The service also connects with local platforms including Swiggy, District, MakeMyTrip, EazyDiner, Amazon Music and JioSaavn.
Amazon says the assistant will become available at no extra cost for Prime members after the Early Access phase. Non-Prime customers are expected to have access through a monthly subscription priced at ₹2,000.
A wider Hindi-first opportunity
Alexa first arrived in India in English in 2017, followed by Hindi support in 2019. With more than 600 million Hindi speakers in the country, the launch of Alexa+ places greater emphasis on natural-language interaction for a vast and diverse user base.
Amazon also reported 20% year-on-year growth for its smart-home devices in India. By combining generative AI with local services and bilingual conversation, Alexa+ could help make voice technology a more intuitive part of everyday digital life.
