A Critical Perspective on the Art Scene with Damien Davis

Join us for an engaging discussion featuring artist and Hyperallergic contributor Damien Davis, whose thought-provoking insights challenge the status quo of the contemporary art landscape.

Davis, known for his exploration of intricate histories and cultural symbols, offers a unique vantage point through his critical essays. His contributions to Hyperallergic have ignited essential conversations about significant topics, such as:

  • The problematic "tokenization" of Black and queer artists within the art market
  • The inequities of the traditional 50/50 gallery commission structure
  • The gap between the glamour of high-profile auctions and the everyday struggles of working artists

This event will feature a dialogue between Davis and Hyperallergic Editor-in-Chief Hakim Bishara. Attendees will have the opportunity to delve into the themes of Davis's recent essays, examining the personal experiences and collective narratives that shape his critical perspective. The conversation will also highlight actionable strategies for fostering a more equitable and transparent art ecosystem.

This event is exclusively available for Hyperallergic Members.
