If you're a Whoop user, you might be familiar with its extensive features, but there are still hidden gems waiting to be discovered. Having worn a Whoop since version 3.0, I've compiled a list of top tips to enhance your experience.
Utilize the Strength Trainer After Workouts
One of my strongest recommendations is to use the Whoop Strength Trainer after completing your workouts. While it can be cumbersome to use during exercise, attaching your workout afterward allows for accurate strain scoring. The Strength Trainer assesses your exercises and calculates a "muscular load," providing a more precise strain score than heart rate data alone.
Rotate Your Phone for a New View
A fun feature you might not know about is that turning your phone sideways on the home screen reveals a horizontal graph of your daily heart rate, highlighting your sleep and workout data. Ensure your phone's rotation is enabled to access this view.
Create a Personalized Weekly Plan
The weekly plans feature in the Whoop app is often overlooked but incredibly valuable. It transforms the wealth of data into manageable tasks. You can choose from pre-made plans, like "Feel Better," which sets daily step goals and hydration reminders. Alternatively, you can customize your plan using your personal data and journal entries.
Access the Daily Outlook for Insights
Instead of just tapping the Whoop Coach icon, check the "daily outlook" button on your home screen. This provides a comprehensive summary of your recent activities and where to focus your efforts, making it a more effective tool than the alternative options available.
Revisit the Old Strain/Recovery View with Widgets
If you miss the previous strain/recovery view, you can add a widget to your home screen that replicates it. This widget displays your heart rate variability and calories burned, along with streak information. You can also opt for the current design with separate circles for sleep, recovery, and strain.
Broadcast Your Heart Rate to Gym Equipment
Why not use your Whoop as a heart rate monitor for gym machines? While it may not match the accuracy of a chest strap, it conveniently broadcasts your heart rate to treadmills or ellipticals, allowing you to track your workout in real-time.
Wear It in Different Ways
While the wristband is handy, Whoop's ability to be worn on a bicep band is a significant advantage. You can find third-party bicep bands that are compatible and may even be more comfortable than the original. Additionally, Whoop offers a line of clothing designed to hold the device securely.
Set Custom Bedtime Recommendations
Whoop's sleep features can be tailored to your needs. The app recommends bedtimes based on your recovery status and allows you to set a weekly schedule for alarms or reminders to help you meet your sleep goals.
Streamline Your Journal Entries
When filling out your daily journal, focus on tracking only what truly impacts your recovery. Avoid logging everything and instead concentrate on factors that are relevant to your current lifestyle and goals. This will keep your journal useful and efficient.
Charge Your Whoop While Showering
To maintain your Whoop's battery life, consider charging it while you shower. This way, you can avoid the discomfort of wearing a wet band afterward while ensuring your device is ready for your next workout.
